Amazon.com Review
For coffee that's as fresh as the neighborhood coffee shop, but served at home, try Cuisinart's Automatic Grind and Brew coffeemaker. It makes it easy to enjoy fresh coffee with the utmost convenience--ground whole-bean coffee pours directly into the filter basket at a pre-set time for instant brewing. The maker does all the thinking, with a range of programmable features: set the machine to grind and brew at exactly the right time, predetermine the coffee's temperature, and program the machine to turn off a half-hour later.Other features take the guess work out of coffeemaking as well: the flavor setting ensures the optimal amount of water is used for a rich, aromatic taste and no acidity or bitterness, and the large easy-view water window makes sure the right amount of water is added. The gold-tone permanent filter also enhances coffee flavor for a hardy, rich taste. A self-clean feature lets you know when calcium buildup is interfering with the machine's operation; turn on the self-clean cycle to make quick work of grime. Daily cleaning of the machine is somewhat involved since all individual parts must be removed, so prepare for slightly longer clean up in exchange for time-saving upfront. Two additional caveats: The grinder is noisy, as most grinders are, and cannot be turned off midgrind. And the coffee bar is taller than average coffee machines, so make sure you have a spot for it with plenty of below cupboard space. --Emily Wolf

The gourmet coffee shop in your kitchen
Date: 2000-05-03 | Rating: 5
The Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup Coffee Maker truly is a gourmet coffee shop in your kitchen. It is easy to use, cleans quickly and you never need another paper filter again. Programming functions such as when to brew that first pot, or how hot you like your coffee is a snap. There are a few tricks to get things just right, like:(1) If you put in pre ground coffee you need to disable the grinding feature. (2) Buy some fresh beans from your favorite gourmet coffee shop. Try just 1/2 pound. (3) Experiment with the flavor strength knob inside the unit until you get it the way you like your coffee. (4) Remember for different brands of coffee (i.e.. not from the same supplier you may have to adjust the number of measures for each cup. For example, I get a hazelnut coffee from a local shop and use eight level measures for an 8-cup pot. Another hazelnut coffee from Green Mountain roasters, I have to add, an additional measure for an 8-cup pot. After experimenting and getting it just right, you will have that gourmet coffee shop right in your kitchen.

absolutely love this and mine is durable!
Date: 2006-08-18 | Rating: 5
I've had mine for 2+ years and have used it every day with no problems at all. The coffee is the best I've ever tasted....nothing beats fresh ground beans. I love waking up to the sound of the grinder, and when it's finished brewing, the machine makes a beeping sound to let you know........it's like a snooze alarm. I think it's actually easy to clean, just 3 parts to wash.

The only way to wake up!
Date: 2000-04-28 | Rating: 5
This is a must have for anyone who insists on fresh ground coffee and likes to be woken up to the sound of the grinder. It makes great coffee and a great centerpiece for kitchen conversations. It also makes an incredible gift for the person who has everything.

Great tasting coffee
Date: 2000-08-17 | Rating: 5
We have had our unit for 8 months and are delighted with it. It makes the best tasting coffee. I'm not the chef in the family but when I make coffee with this machine, people invariably comment about how good it is. As a reviewer notes below, it does require clean up, including drying, after each use, but it is worth a little extra effort. We lost a piece after 3 or 4 months of use, Cuisinart sent a replacement free of charge! If this machine does give out, I'll have to replace it with an identical one. Just don't think I could go back to regular drip coffee...

How can you go wrong? Everything all in one
Date: 2003-11-18 | Rating: 5
We have had this coffee maker for about 3 or 4 years. We have never had a problem with it. I noticed that other people complained about the cleaning of the coffee maker. I have had no problems, when we finish with the pot or 2 a day that we make, I clean everything (using the sprayer on the faucet works great). Then at night before we go to bed I put the beans in and the grounds don't stick in the grinder. If you don't like to use the gold filter basket, an even easier clean-up happens. Just put the paper filter inside the basket (wet down the upper edges and flip it down around the outside of the basket), when you are done lift up on the basket handle and carry it to the garbage where you can then pull out the paper filter easily. Only thing is if you do it this way it will take longer to brew the coffee, so just set the timer earlier!

DISAPPOINTMENTED
Date: 2009-10-29 | Rating: 1
Coffee is bland with an off flavor. Coffee is not hot. We have an older model Cuisinart thermal coffee maker that makes wonderful, hot coffee--the coffee stays hot all day. We wanted to upgrade to a smaller version 10 c. thermal coffeemaker and are really disappointed in this model. We would not recommend this model.

Yuck!
Date: 2010-01-21 | Rating: 1
What a disappointment! After brewing 8 cups and not having hot coffee....I brewed 4 cups and immediately poured from the thermos--- the coffee was still"just warm" and very bland. We are real coffee drinkers, grinding our own beans, using top quality beans. This coffee maker brewed the worst cup of coffee ever. Also the programming does not show "am" just "pm" and that can get confusing unless you are really really concentrating in your setting. I would not recommend this product at all. I returned item to the store and purchased another brand name coffee maker. Maxine San Diego

HUGE Disappointment!
Date: 2010-02-13 | Rating: 1
We are serious coffee drinkers and bought this coffee pot expecting quality coffee. Unfortunately, we have been unable to get a good cup of coffee, despite the use of fresh, quality coffee beans that are ground just before use. While the flavor is OK, the coffee is luke warm and gets cold soon after brewing. This purchase was a HUGE disappointment and a waste of money. I would not recommend this coffee pot to anyone. Angel

This Is The Coffee Maker You've Always Wanted
Date: 2005-10-19 | Rating: 5
Finally, something that is what it says it is! "A great coffee maker." My Cuisinart DCC-1200W coffee brewer arrived late this morning and I quickly unpacked it. Following the manufacturer's instructions, I flushed it once, and installed the included water filter (only one came with the unit), and prepared to make the first pot of coffee. The White and Chrome model was my choice to blend in with my other appliances. This Cuisinart product is made from sturdy material and is visually appealing (not disappointing or offending my spouse ((doubly important)).) In just ten minutes the coffee brewer beeped (gently) five times to let me know the coffee was ready. (Yes, I could tell by the silence that it was done but as I said its beep is gentle.) You will love the carafe. Did you know that someone really can design a carafe that doesn't dribble or spill as you pour? Cuisinart did. And yes, you can pour a quick cup before the brew cycle completes. The handle on the carafe is the perfect size and shape to fit any hand. It's just that now you can pour that quick cup without pouring all over the counter. You Mr. Coffee users know what I mean! How did it taste? It makes a fantastic cup of coffee. Whether you use an expensive gourmet grind or right off of the donkeys back, you will be pleased with this coffee maker as I am. The controls are simple and easy to understand as well as reachable and easy to operate for big or dainty hands. The Cuisinart DCC-1200 has the entire expected preset features you are accustom too, and a few more such as the adjustable warmer plate temperature control. You won't be scorching. If you only have time for a quick 1-4 cups, there is a setting made for it exclusively and the brewer will double the heat so the coffee will be hot enough for your liking when it's done. Yes there are many more great feature, so look at the product description for those bonuses. To sum up: The Cuisinart DCC1200 is a well made and finely designed coffee maker that you will be glad to own and use over and over again. I can't emphasise that point enough in type. Enjoy.

Excellent
Date: 2003-12-23 | Rating: 5
Disregard the "very disappointing" review -- it's talking about the combo grinder/brewer and not this product. I've had the brew central for a couple of weeks now and it makes the best pot of coffee I have ever tasted. Very hot, and the little shower head over the grinds does seem to make for a stronger brew. It's bulky, certainly, but is an excellent machine. The white/steel finish is much brighter than the trendy, mod, black-on-steel favored in last year's kitchens.

Finally a dripless carafe
Date: 2003-08-20 | Rating: 5
I have used Krups, Braun, Mr. Coffee and others, but I am impressed with this coffee maker. It does not have a door to swing open, the carafe is absolutely dripless!, the controls are above the carafe and out of the way if coffee is spilled, it is easy to program, and best of all it makes a great cup of coffee. Thanks.

Great Coffee Maker-How to Deal with the quirks
Date: 2006-04-15 | Rating: 5
I have had a DCC-1200 for a couple of months and really like the coffee it makes. I had a Braun Flavorselect (actually a couple of them), over the past several years, and really liked them, although I kept blowing the thermostat. When the last one failed, I found out they were no longer made, so I bought the cuisinart baed on reviews. PROS 1.) The coffee is very good-probably better than the Braun as the latter seemed acidic in comparison (probably the charcoal filter in the Cuisinart). 2.) The coffee, both after the brew, and with the warmer on high, is very hot, which is what I liked about the Flavorselect. I have to have my coffee hot! 3.) It is a very sturdy unit, looks good, and is easy to keep clean. (I have the Black with Grey steel looking sides). CONS 1.) As is frequently mentioned, the pouring hole is small and incovenient to get to. My wife easily resolved this by making a small funnel cut out of the top of a liter Coke bottle. I recommend this as a work around. 2.) The condensation dripping off the lid. We work with this by setting the lid about half open for a few seconds, and if need be, lightly jiggle it before completely opening it to pour in the water. That way, very little drips down the back. 3.) The lid is a little difficult to get off and snap back on. However, I soon realized the advantage of this lid, over a conventional hinged lid, is that: 1.)It is easier to pour the water in without spilling (with the lid on), and 2.) The tight fit keeps you from spilling or dripping from the first cup. The Carafe is very nicely balanced. Again, the most important thing is the taste of the coffee, and the fact that it stays hot. Use these little workarounds, and the unit will work great for you! Milt

only one tiny drawback...
Date: 2004-03-22 | Rating: 5
to this otherwise excellent coffeemaker -- you must pour the water into a very narrow chamber and you can't see how much water is in it unless you are making at least 8 cups. I always measure the water into the pot first and then into the machine. No big deal and worth it because this pot makes great coffee! I love the setting for 4 or less cups that superheats the water so you get a hot cup (you know how the first couple of cups are always tepid!)....great machine.

Not a great coffeemaker
Date: 2009-10-30 | Rating: 2
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COFFEEMAKER!! I had chosen this coffeemaker because of the design (goes with the other stainless kitchen appliances) and that it is made by Cuisinart, which I thought makes good appliances. This coffeemaker has worked "perfectly" for me only twice out of about 8 tries, after which I gave up. It's sitting (pretty) on my counter but will only be used as a back-up. The carafe tends to dribble when the water is poured into the reservoir and when I pour the coffee! If you hold the carafe "just right" (I haven't quite figured out what that is) it won't dribble. Too much trouble! I want to just pour my coffee!! Another drawback, IMO, is that the coffee basket is basically pointed so you can't set it on the counter to pour your coffee grounds into the filter because it tips onto its side. This is troublesome for me because I grind my beans and usually pour the grounds directly from the grinder. Twice I've had the grinds go over the sides of the filter and make a mess. I suppose I could've spooned the grinds in, but it's actually hard to spoon coffee grinds out of the grinder with the blade in the middle of things. Another feature that's supposed to be an asset is that it automatically shuts off after 30 minutes. My pattern in the morning is to make coffee, take a shower, pour my first cup, do other things, and then come back for the 2nd cup, which I would like to be hot. Nope! This baby shuts off and the coffee cools down real fast!! I have heard better reviews by friends of $20 Mr. Coffees!! I am back to using my French press.

excellent coffee, convenient, looks good
Date: 2009-09-09 | Rating: 4
Bought this three years ago and fix 7-8 cups of coffee every morning. Looks good, coffee tastes good, and very convenient,

Disappointed
Date: 2008-01-24 | Rating: 2
I had high hopes for this coffeemaker. I was replacing a beloved Krups which finally died after 4 years of constant use. I don't like scorched coffee, so I wanted a thermal carafe. My husband doesn't like the slow pour typical of thermal carafes, so I thought this might be a great solution. It's not. It does pour quickly. However, the "thermal" coffee reservoir is useless. One can program the heat plate to stay on for up to four hours, and the coffee stays HOT and burned tasting. I have mine programmed to stay on for one hour and the coffee is too cool to drink after 90 minutes. This machine would be a reasonable choice for someone who wants a lot of coffee ready to serve quickly all at once, but it's not a good choice for someone like me who likes to drink their morning pot over a four hour morning. It's going back and I am going to get a more traditional thermal coffee maker.

Unreliable
Date: 2009-02-25 | Rating: 2
My problem with this unit is it's unreliability. I love the concept, and when it works - this thing is the best coffee maker I've ever owned. Unfortunately I've now gone through 2 of them. Each time they just stop working. I'm guessing it's electrical - either a switch, or something with the heater. It's too much of a pain to send it back to get serviced. I hoped my first one was a lemming, but my second one has just done the same thing. Googling I found this is a common issue. Shame - if they could solve that, this thing would be unbeatable.

Too Bad . . .
Date: 2009-06-01 | Rating: 2
We too thought the concept was great. We have now gone through two of these machines and both just stopped working. Waste of money.

Great product with TERRIBLE reliability
Date: 2010-01-19 | Rating: 1
Third one I have owned just died, and like the other times I had not kept a receipt and they said it was manufactured more than 3 years ago so it was out of warranty. None were more than a year old. I love the coffee maker but not at $100/year. Buy two, keep the receipts and plan on dealing with LONG replacement times under warranty. Look around at reviews, this product is notoriously unreliable.

Great little maker for a great price
Date: 2004-05-07 | Rating: 5
I recently took a chance and purchased this item. I had read some discouraging reviews, but I am more than pleased. Although it is a 4-cup maker, it is great for an office or a smaller family home. It is a great space saver on the counter, cleans up nicely and makes excellent coffee. The stainless steel carafe cleans easily and looks great. I haven't found any adverse tastes due to a stainless steel carafe as opposed to glass. It definitely gets the job done quickly and easily, and looks good in the process. Highly recommend!

Date: 2007-02-19 | Rating: 5
I was given a 12-cup coffee maker as a housewarming gift. Although it worked nicely, I live alone and found that when I made a half-pot, the coffee never came out quite right. It was also a pain to clean. I love the Cuisinart 4-cup because it makes the perfect amount for me to have a large mug while I'm getting ready for work, and then take the rest with me in a travel mug. The coffee turns out great every time. It is easy enough for me to clean and set up during my morning (pre-coffee) stupor. It doesn't take up a lot of space on my counter. The one drawback of the product is that it has a 30-min automatic shut-off feature. On weekends, I take a little longer to make it through the pot, and often it shuts off before I've finished all of the coffee. The stainless steel carafe does not keep it as hot as I expected (I was expecting it to be thermal, but I suppose that was my own misconception). On the other hand, the auto shut-off has saved me from many a burned carafe, so I would say that is only a conditional flaw.

- Measures 13 by 5-1/4 by 8-1/2 inches; 3-year limited warranty

Product Description
How ingenious is this? No need to take the time to pour coffee into your travel mug anymore, this machine brews right into one or two stainless steel mugs. Brew, grab, and go. It even turns itself off after brewing is complete.

Amazon.com Review
Perfect for preparing coffee at home before dashing out the door, this coffeemaker brews through the lids directly into either one or both of the 14-ounce travel mugs accompanying the machine. The stainless-steel mugs have rubber, nonslip grips, fit most vehicle cup holders, and are 6-3/4 inches high, with 2-5/8-inch-diameter rubber bottoms. Lids keep coffee hot in the mugs and are deeply indented and sloped toward the drink hole to contain spills. Both mugs and their lids are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker uses disposable paper filters (two included), automatically shuts off after the brewing process, and can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, the coffeemaker measures 13 inches high, 5-1/4 inches wide, and 8-1/2 inches deep, and carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Excellent idea! And no heating plate, very nice!
Date: 2001-10-30 | Rating: 5
Most people don't realize that the heating plates under your carafes make your coffee bitter. The thermos-style carafes, including this unique design, result is much better tasting coffee, and keep it hot for hours if you put the top on.This particular unit is very cool. I honestly am not a very tidy person, my sink is full of stuff to clean, but with this I only have to wash out two cups and run normal water through the unit to clean. I really can't understand why there are not more of these available, they skip an annoying step in the daily coffee making process, and it keeps the bitter away!

Too many coffee drinkers don't spoil the pot
Date: 2003-07-04 | Rating: 5
We have 4 coffee drinkers who rise and set at different times. This little coffee maker fits the bill for a good hot unspoiled cup of coffee at any time (I'm not dumping stale pots down the drain much any more). You don't have to toss the regular coffee maker, it is still good on weekends, but when you want a cup at 12 midnight, and if someone else happens to want a brew as well, the decision is brainless. It uses readily available cone filters and makes a great tasting "big" cup.

Great for one or two!
Date: 2003-03-22 | Rating: 5
We have had this unit for over a year and it's great. We became addicted to a certain coffee at our bagel joint. After a morning of surveillance we saw the girl restock the coffee & we got the brand of coffee. I ordered two cases. Now coffee is [less] each day, without the trip. The unit is flawless if you are awake enough to know what your doing. Perfect, hot coffee everytime. I set it all up at night without the cream & sugar so I can blindly hit the switch in the morning, then jump into the shower. You need to stir the sugar anyway! We use two rounded tablespoons per cup. I'm buying one for the office now. It makes a single cup just as well as two cups. The deal they have includes another insulated cup. These cups cost [a lot]. I'll give the extras to my inlaws for a present. The pluses are obvious. The downside is; 1. No timer & 2. paper filters. But they do make cleaning easier, no rinsing.

Yum!

Love this coffeemaker. It brews quickly and makes one or two wonderful cups (cups at 14 ounces each.....) I have actually unplugged my "big" and expensive coffeemaker. Have used this twice to three times a day and so far no problems. I am very picky about the taste of my coffee, want a flavorable coffeehouse brew and this little Two To Go unit delivers consistently. I like this so much I just ordered another unit for my son-in-law for his birthday!Hopefully this little coffeemaker stands the test of time and holds up because I really like it! The cups hold the java at a warm temp for longer than I expected and have been very useful.

Quick, convenient & error-free!

I've had my Cuisinart Two to Go Coffeemaker for a year now and had no problems with it at all. I use it at least once every day and find it makes great cups of coffee easily, conveniently and quickly. I decided to invest in this one after finding my last coffee maker taking hours to make coffee and it was always either too strong or too weak (it was one of those Krups coffee makers with a built in grinder). No such problems with this one! Also since day 1 I've been putting the cups in the dishwasher without any real loss of performance; perhaps they're not as heat resistant as they were at the beginning, but they still keep my coffee warm for 1hr+ ; and hey, if it doesn't go in the dishwasher, then it ain't worth having!

I owned a coffee pot like this for years and it finally croked one day and i bought a similar kind but never satisfied with it until i saw a really good price for a new one and ordered right away and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail (can't wait)

Replace every 18 months
Date: 2009-05-26 | Rating: 3
I bought my first DCC-2000 in October 2006. It slowly faded out, with the controls shutting off unpredictably, until one day, it was just dead. I plugged it in and it wouldn't show the clock, nor would it turn on to brew the coffee. I contacted Cuisinart, who replaced it for a $10.00 shipping fee. I assume the replacement was refurbished. It began doing the same thing at about 9 months to a year. I coaxed about 5-6 more months out of it, but now it is sitting on my counter top DEAD. I will contact Cuisinart again, to see if they will replace again. However, I am not thrilled with having to replace this. A coffee pot that costs as much as this one does should last 5-10 years, not 18 months. When it works, it makes EXCELLENT coffee, and I love the feature of pushing the handle and getting hot, perfect, delicious coffee. It even has a gauge (my hubby enjoys that).

Perfect coffee maker for work
Date: 2008-10-12 | Rating: 5
We needed a commercial coffee maker for work - this is perfect - two of us can make coffee at the same time and each use a different flavor of pod if we want to. It is so easy to use - just pour in water to make 1 cup or 2 cups, put the pod(s) in and push the button - couldn't be any easier to clean up - just dump the used pod! And it came with 50 pods of coffee - a couple of us like it a little stronger so we just use a little less water and it works great - I would recommend this coffee maker.

Very happy!
Date: 2009-01-24 | Rating: 5
I ordered this because I don't have a lot of counter space in my apartment and I've never been able to measure out the right amount of coffee to make a good-tasting cup. This maker is perfect! I ordered flavored pods separately, but I used the regular pods that came with the maker until they arrived. The pods that come with the machine have a great flavor! The coffee wasn't too strong and it wasn't too weak. For the first time in my life, I'm consistently making coffee that tastes good! My boyfriend really likes the coffee maker, too. We use bigger mugs and the amount of coffee that comes out is perfect to add milk and not overflow the mug. The maker arrived very quickly and the seller was great! I would definitely buy their pods when I run out of my 50 regular ones! I'm going to try to convince the office manager at my job to buy one for the office!

COFFEE OR TEA
Date: 2009-01-19 | Rating: 2
This looks like a good idea until you try it. Product is nicely made and makes it easy to (supposedly) brew one or two cups of coffee. However, the pods supplied brewed what looked a lot like weak tea, and tasted worse. I am in the middle of trying to return this product for credit. Certainly not worth $[...] bucks for heating up water.........

2 cup option doesn't work
Date: 2009-12-06 | Rating: 2
I bought this coffee maker because 1) the cost of pods are less than K-cups, 2) Cuisinart typically makes a good product and 3) it makes two cups of coffee at the same time. Unfortunately the coffee maker cannot produce two cups simultaneously as it advertises. One cup always came out with more coffee than the other making one cup weak (and overflowing) and one cup strong (with not enough coffee). It would have been better if the brew time was faster too. I would not recommend

Worthless
Date: 2009-03-07 | Rating: 1
From day one it wouldn't make coffee equally out of both sides. Overflowing the left and leaving the right half full. Then it failed completely. Totally worthless product.

Great So Far
Date: 2007-06-24 | Rating: 5
I purchased this coffee maker 4 months ago and it has worked wonderful so far. This is the 3rd coffee maker I have had in the last year. It told me last week to clean it and I did. Makes wonderful coffee set to my taste, and stays as hot as I want it to. Looks sleek and beautiful on the cabinet. Only drawbacks are you have to pour slow so you don't dribble (but only when I rush) and clock can't be seen in dark, only used to program it. I hope it lasts as long as it is warranteed for but would take 2 years.

Better designed than I thought...
Date: 2008-11-06 | Rating: 5
I read reviews obsessively and couldn't find the combination of features and looks and color I wanted (I got this in white), and settled on this one. I was worried about how difficult it would be to pour water in b/c of the placement of the well, but what you find out is that the Cuisinart pot is perfectly designed to sit on the lip of the well and pour the water on. Wish the lid on the pot were attached with a lever, instead of being a pop on and off affair... and if I break the pot - oi - doesn't seem like a cheap replacement. Small minus points for plastic knobs with cheap feeling little silver lines painted on which look like they'll get stripped off.. As mentioned the water gage is inside and isn't the easiest to read, you just have to measure carefully before you pour in - no biggie. And small minus for the faintness of the LED clock, and that to program the machine, you have to click TWO settings, not one, but still - I'm more impressed than I expected. And Big points for style. Oh - and no plastic taste here.

Best coffe maker ever. Great value.
Date: 2009-06-17 | Rating: 5
This is the best coffee maker I ever had. I was reluctant to spend $80 on a coffee maker. After living with this one for 6 months now I can honestly say that I would have paid a hundred for it and still been just as happy. I have seen many people who say that the water gauge being on the inside is a flaw in the design and they don't know how much water they put in. I do not understand this. I am 6'2" and can see the water gauge fine. That said, I never look at it anyway because I use the pot to measure the water and fill. Another "flaw" that I read in many reviews referred to the place where you pour the water being too small. Not the case. It is not tricky AT ALL to pour in the water. I use the coffe pot to fill it and I have never spilled a drop. I don't have to be particularly careful to get the desired result, either. This is a great coffe pot and an excellent value for the money. It makes a GREAT pot of coffee!

Why this is BETTER then a GRIND AND BREW Coffee Maker.
Date: 2009-09-06 | Rating: 5
This is a fantastic coffee maker that makes great tasting coffee but what if you are debating between this and an "all in one" unit that will grind your beans and brew your coffee at the same time (that I will refer to as a "Grind-N-Brew")? Below are my reasons for not giving into the "all in one gimmick": 1. Grind-N-Brew makers require just as much work as having a regular coffee maker and purchasing a separate grinder. When a grinder is built into the coffee maker, it tends to get wet from the steam each time you use it (unless the grinder is far enough away from the brewing portion of the machine. A few models do this but then some of them still have you manually transfer the grounds from one part of the machine to the next so what's the point?). Because the grinder get's wet from the steam, you have to clean it more often. Some models even require that you clean it after every brew! 2. With a separate grinder, you can grind the beans the night before (when you set the coffee maker) so there is less noise in the morning to wake you up. 3. This maker has a cone shaped filter instead of the bucket shaped ones that tend to come with the Grind-N-Brew models I've found (not sure why this is). 4. With a separate grinder, you can get better quality grinding. Seems like the built in grinders that I saw in the stores were a little on the dull side like it would make pretty course grounds (?). 5. Some Grind-N-Brew models pre-determine how much grounds you will use but if you buy a separate grinder, you can determine how strong you want your coffee. WHY CHOOSE THIS SPECIFIC BREW-ONLY COFFEE MAKER MODEL: Because it makes fantastic tasting coffee and, for the price, it feels solid, looks great, and is of good quality (compared to other makers I've seen for the same price). To me, the coffee tastes like I went to a coffee shop everytime I use it. It has a warming plate (and you can set it to high/medium/low). It also has a cleaning feature (which I thought was pointless until I found that it will actually alert you if it is STILL dirty after you've cleaned it (meaning you haven't cleaned it enough) which might be a neat idea. You can also set it to shut off after 1-4 hours and it has a 1-4 cup setting (which will heat the coffee up more then normal since you're making a smaller cup). The coffee is hot (burnt my mouth the first time) and tastes great. MINOR FLAWS: 1) Yes, with this model (and many other Cuisinart models), there is the issue of the 5 beeps that it makes when it completes the brewing cycle. It's not terrible unless you are sleeping in the room. The beeps sound like a generic wrist watch alarm and you're microwave will probably make more noise then these beeps so it shouldn't really deter you from purchasing this unit unless you are a delicate sleeper or have a studio apartment...etc.). 2) No outside water meter (so you will want to just keep track of how much water you put into the unit-which could be a downside to the thermal carafe option). It is possible to tell how many cups of water there are inside the unit by looking down the well positioned in the back (it has a measure inside there) but who wants to do that-just measure beforehand. 3) Yes, the hole in the back to pour the water in is more on the small side (about the size of an orange, I guess), so you will probably want to have full access to the back of the machine (maybe be able to slide it away from a wall so you can fully open lid to the machine and get the carafe to pour the water well. 4) The carafe lid snaps on and off so everytime you want to rinse it and put water in it, you have to snap off the lid (not a huge deal but not as nice as the attached lids). I'm getting pretty good at flicking off the lid with my thumb. ;) All in all, a great buy at a great price! I would highly recommend it for this price range.

Not Loud, Not Hard to Clean..Spending Less at Starbucks!!
Date: 2001-12-09 | Rating: 5
While there are very few who complain about the quality of coffee produced by this machine, there are some who complain about the noise or cleaning factors. I would disagree that this is a noisy and hard to clean machine. The grinder is NO LOUDER than any other grinder in the world. In fact, it's slightly less noisy b/c it is contained within the machine. As far as cleaning goes, there are only 3 pieces that need to be cleaned and dried. At the end of the day, I take out the pieces and spray them clean with warm/hot water from the kitchen sprayer. Then, I sit them upside down on a paper towel to dry overnight (Unless I'm going to set the auto-brew function for morning, in which case I dry and replace the parts immediately). Other reviewers, who use a similar process, seem to rate this item highly. I'm not sure what the rest of the reviewers are expecting! If you want to grind and brew your own coffee, you must clean the grinder and filter system whether they are a part of the same machine or two separate ones! In the end, this product does a wonderful job of simplifying the process!!Oh, by the way, I've cut my Starbucks expenditure by 75%!!

Awesome!

I just received my Grind and Brew coffee maker, and I now look forward to 6 AM every day. I put the beans and water in at night and when I'm out of the shower, freshly brewed coffee is waiting! Because it controls the grind and the amount of water poured over the grounds the coffee is smooth and flavorful, no bitterness at all. I no longer stop at the coffee shop on my way to school and I have been more patient with my students! I highly recommend it!

Great coffee maker
Date: 2002-04-05 | Rating: 5
I am not sure how you can have a problem with this coffee maker. Yes it makes noise when grinding but what grinder doesn't. It takes about 3 min to clean and all the parts fit nicely together.

great reliable coffee maker
Date: 2006-03-23 | Rating: 5
Owned this coffee maker for over 5 years now, been happy since day one. Automatic grinder along with good beans really makes a difference in the quality of the coffee. Have not experienced any of the hinge breakages other users mentioned. And the labels are still on for mine, maybe I don't clean as rigorously as others. The only cleaning I do on a day to day bases is basically cleaning out the grinder and filter. This takes running water over the 4 parts (grinder, grinder cap, filter and cover), which easily lifts out, in the sink. Yes, the day to day cleaning is more involved than a coffee maker that uses coffee grounds, but it's not any harder (in fact easier) than using a separate grinder for the beans. One additional note, I use paper coffee filters along with the wire mesh filter provided for stronger flavor from the coffee beans.

great coffee every morning

We used to grind coffee and then clean up the mess and then make coffee in our drip coffee maker. Now it is one step. The night before we put in the coffee beans and the next morning we hear it grinding and then start to smell fresh coffee.

Excellent quality, great coffee!
Date: 2008-11-28 | Rating: 5
We searched and searched for a thermal carafe coffeemaker. This one was a decent price, with a lot of features, include brew/pause, automatic shutoff, a double-walled stainless thermal carafe, and a built-in water filter. The first few pots didn't taste great, even though I ran hot water through it a couple of times before brewing that first pot. The Cuisinart makes GREAT coffee, good and hot. The carafe keeps it hot for a long time. It's a great buy for the money. I made a pot at 7:00 this morning and the coffee is still warm. We're very pleased. It also has a three year warranty. You can't beat it for the price.

Perfect For My Needs

The main reasons I was interested in this coffee maker were for the thermal properties of the carafe and the quality of coffee the machine makes. I wasn't interested in whether or not I could see the water in the reservoir or see how much coffee was left in the pot. I wanted a machine that would allow me to stop making multiple pots of coffee throughout the morning. Most of the time, I would make myself coffee early in the morning, then, make my wife a pot around 10 or 11. Our old coffee maker would burn coffee after about 45 minutes. With the Cuisinart, all I have to do is put hot water in the carafe prior to brewing, pour it out, and brew my coffee as usual. After the coffee is made, I put the stylish carafe on our coffee table or living room table, and we have coffee for the whole morning. I don't have to worry about the pot burning any of our table/counter surfaces because it's double insulated. That's the beauty of this carafe--its basically a large, stylish thermos. All of the other minor issues I can deal with. Guess what? You can pour water into the chamber with something other than the coffee pot. You know how many cups of coffee you can pour before the pot is empty? The exact number you poured from your old coffee pot. If you had a 12-cup maker prior to this one, subtract 1 large coffee mug from that number. I'm not real sure what people are expecting from this machine. It makes above-average coffee and keeps it hot without burning or scalding.

Read The Reviews

I guess what reading reviews proves is that,"you can please some of the people most of the time, and most of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" and unfortunately it is the terminally discontent that write most of the reviews. I like strong coffee, no problem; I like hot coffee, no problem; I like a carafe that keeps the coffee hot, until it starts to settle down at which point it loses its flavor any way, no problem. I see lots of nit picking by those who enjoy picking nits. Grow up people, this is not a perfect world and this is not a perfect coffee maker but it is more than good enough to rate five stars. \TGP

Great coffee maker
Date: 2009-01-17 | Rating: 5
I did a lot of research before buying this coffee maker from Amazon. Some close contenders were the grind and brew and the higher dollar capresso's. I was really liked the idea of a grind and brew, yet across the board , from one maker to another, people reported problems with the process, whether it be moisture build up in the grinding area, too much coffee being left in the grinding process, problems maintaining brew strength, problems 'switching' coffee flavors, and time consuming cleaning processes. I thought I would invest and buy a higher dollar capresso without the grinder, but was really suprised and disappointed that multiple reviews stated they had problems with a ball float in the pot lid resulting in waking up to find coffee - all over the counter. In my humble opinion, waking up up to the best coffee in the world the rest of the year is not worth cleaning up that mess once in a while. The thermal carafe on the cuisinart is great. I understood before buying it that getting the last drop of coffee out of a thermal carafe lid or in fact using it to fill the water reserv. were problematic across most makers. I keep a 44oz plastic rest cup by my coffee supplies to fill the water and it is handy as I get the water from the filtered fridge and filling into the cup is actually more efficient than filling even into my old glass coffee carafe as they are all kind of bulky. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for about three hours. I am very happy with this product and gave it 5 stars.

Great tasting coffee from a great looking machine
Date: 2009-10-27 | Rating: 5
After reading too many reviews on KitchenAid, Mr. Coffee, & Cuisinart coffee makers, I decided to take a chance on this model. The coffee from this machine is fantastic! I used to always make coffee out of my Bodum 2 cup coffee press because I was convinced that the only way to get a great tasting cup of coffee was to use a coffee press. Boy, was I wrong! It was my boyfriend's idea to get a coffee maker & I'm glad I listened. The coffee doesn't have any bitterness or strange tastes that I would normally get from my old 4 cup Mr. Coffee. I'm sure this can also be attributed to the water filter & the gold-tone coffee filter included with the machine (which is also awesome because you don't have to buy it separately). I've tried the programming feature & it works perfectly. It's probably not something you can just "figure out" but it wasn't difficult. I just had to take a few minutes to read the instructions. I was able to wake up to the wonderful smell of freshly brewed coffee & found that it's a great incentive to get out of bed on time (along with not being late for work). A few downsides(as many have already mentioned): the water level indicator. Since you have to look at it from above the reservoir I can see how it may be difficult for shorter people (I'm pretty short at 5'3" but I don't have a problem with it). If you are not in a well lit area of the kitchen this may also cause a problem for you because it's hard to tell where the water level is. Solution: use a liquid measuring cup when filling the reservoir & take note of how much water is required to make however much coffee you want to make. Pouring the water using a regular cup will prove to be problematic because of the small opening of the water reservoir. Solution: Use a liquid measuring cup. The other downside to it is that it is a little difficult to pour out of the thermal carafe, especially if you are only making a few cups of coffee. The last couple cups of coffee doesn't pour very easily because of the plastic lip around the top of the carafe. Solution: take the lid off the carafe & pour. As you can see there are some design issues that could be improved but it doesn't make the coffee maker bad (in my opinion). Bad tasting coffee will make a coffee maker bad & this one definitely does not produce bad tasting coffee. That's why it gets 5 stars from me.

Great little brewer
Date: 2008-08-22 | Rating: 5
This is a great little brewer for anyone who wants to brew just one quick cup or when you don't need to make a full pot. I use it when I leave early AM for the airport hours before the family wakes up. Green Tree supplies this unit with 50 pods of terrific coffee too. It's fast, quiet, and I think I'll easily save the cost of this brewer in coffee we don't pour out down the drain. Highly recommended.

I recently stayed in a hotel and they had this coffee pot. I used it and loved it. I bought it to take to work, but decided to leave at home instead and may order another for work.

Three weeks ago I stayed in a motel which had this same coffeemaker. I have tried single serving coffeemakers before, but I was never satisfied or impressed. This coffeemaker is simply outstanding. Makes one cup of delicious, brewed coffee. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Highly recommend. Would give this product 10 stars if I could!

I LOVE this coffee brewer

I recently used one similar to this in a Wyngate Inn and loved it. This little gem is cheap, small( great for tiny kitchens) and brews one delicious cup of coffee in under 3 mins. I also just get Senseo pods from Target at $4.84 a peice for 18. I will save so much money at Starbux now! Best purchase I have made all year.

Ignore Detractors, this machine ROCKS!
Date: 2004-12-31 | Rating: 5
I use it to make 2 cups or full pots. I have used many different machines over 15 years of drinking coffee (and therefore making coffee) daily and have absolutely no complaints about this machine. I would like to address the complaints here for people shopping for a coffeemaker. RE: The reported leakage problem. This is due to OVERFILLING. The water reservoir is larger than the carafe for a reason people: Steam builds up as water is heated, if the reservoir were the exact size of the carafe... YOU finish this sentence. If you can- a) figure out in your head what happens to heated plastic without room built in to displace heat and b) either fill the machine with the actual carafe being used or something you measured out beforehand that is equal to the volume of said carafe- than you're smart enough to own this excellent machine. RE: The BEEP. Yes it beeps (3 times) and yes it's not a whisper, but it's not the trumpet people are making it out to be. These people must have it set up in their bedrooms two feet from their head. If the machine is in your kitchen and you are nearby it's not loud enough to wake you, it's just loud enough to hear if you're in the other room and can't WAIT to get that first cup of java. It's morning and it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." It's evening and I'm chatting with friends and forget and then it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." People who complain about the beep would complain about getting wet in the rain or cold in the winter. RE: The screw cap. Yes it takes 3 revolutions to get this SCREW cap SCREWED on. And like any nut and bolt system you have to start screwing evenly in order to form a tight bond. This tight bond is what keeps your coffee hot. The carafe pours using a built-in ball-bearing that uses that wonderful thing we like to call gravity to move the ball ever so slightly away from the opening so that your HOT coffee can pour into your waiting favorite coffee cup. The stream is thin yes, again for a reason: large openings equal larger exposure to air, air that is most probably colder than you like your coffee. I've tried many others and this is my favorite. This is the coffeemaker I would give as a gift to someone who really loves their coffee. Now I will retire to my DTC-975BK and celebrate its excellence with an afternoon cup of French Roast.

Coolest coffee maker on the planet

For about a year, I had been stopping by the coffee pot section of the stores staring at the few pathetic choices, and thankfully resisted the urge to buy the mostly stainless steel Cuisinart number that my daughter has.Just last week my girlfriend had been telling me how much she loved her thermal one, and it really got me thinking how awesome it would be if the coffee stayed hot, and didn't turn funky like it always does on a burner. A day later, I was staring at this one in the store and fell in love with it.First of all, it was the 12 cup factor - I had only seen 10 cup thermals before and I couldn't see the point - when I entertain, I need to have more than 10 lousy cups. It also looks super in my white/bisque kitchen, and the brushed stainless steel pot is very nice looking and heavy duty. I was forever standing in front of the micro reheating a cup of coffee or tea. Today was a very extreme example: I made a pot of coffee at 9:30 am before heading to church - and at 4:30 IN THE AFTERNOON, poured a cup and it was TOO HOT TO DRINK! Mind-blowing! And it tasted exactly like the first cup did in the morning. The whole fam likes to also likes to drink a lot of tea, especially in the evening, and it dawned on me that I could run the water through it without coffee, and wala.... hot water for tea anytime someone wants a cup... no more standing in front of the micro for 2 minutes. I can't tell you how awesome this coffee maker is... and having never had one I can set up the night before is truly wonderful. I love the fact that I don't have to open the top to pour. I will never own a coffeemaker with a hot plate again.

Love it.!! Some issues are real but easily overcome

I LOVE this coffee maker. It is true that the coffee is hot and fresh for hours. It's super easy to clean. Definitely one of the best purchases I made. I would highly recommend this machine for most people. Some of the issues mentioned do have some truth...but are unavoidable given the merits of the machine... For example, the lid does need to be put on correctly and is a little tight (but this required if the coffee is to stay hot for hours). Every once in a while I misalign it, but I think it's obvious when this starts to happen. I could see that someone with arthritis would have a problem. This machine may not be for the very old, or those with people in the house who wouldn't make the effot to do it right (like some teenagers?). Same thing with putting the brew basket in. It does have to sit fully down and can easily be put in crooked. But after you've used it a few times it's obvious when it's in properly or not. When properly placed you can remove the pot during brew without spilling a drop. Again, this machine may not be best for older people who really can't see very well (my grandmother would have a real hard time) and for those who don't bother to check these little things. I did have a problem once with the autostopper not working well and dripping when I remove the pot during brew, now I always fill the basket with water and push the button to let water come through when I wash it. Works like a champ again. Bottom line, for most people this coffee pot is fabulous. I may not be best for older people because it does have a few quirks.

A brilliant design

As a coffee lover since 3rd grade, and an engineer with a low tolerance for flaws, I'd call this coffeemaker near-perfect. I gave it as a gift this Christmas, and our whole extended family was impressed with the unit. The thermos carafe has an ingenious screw-top lid (easily removed for cleaning), with a beautifully clever mechanism that allows coffee to trickle in during brewing, and pour out without opening the top, but still manage to be airtight the rest of the time. I'd like to shake the hand of the guy that designed that simple-but-elegant mechanism. The coffeemaker brews a full 12-cup carafe in just 10 minutes, a real benefit given the effect that brewing time has on the coffee's flavor. And the carafe is insulated enough that the coffee remained drinkable past the 2 hour mark. The only weakness that I saw is that, since the unit shuts off completely once the coffee is brewed, you can't tell at a glance that there is coffee waiting for you (if it started automatically by the timer). But that's pretty minor, and I'm already recommending this machine to friends. Well done, Cuisinart.

Close to perfect for us...

I read all the reviews of this coffee maker before we bought one. We must have a new and improved model. There is a water-line tube on the outside, left side of the machine...very easy to read and is accurate. There is NO hotplate (don't know where that review came from), the filter holder can only go in one way for no mistakes, the screw-on lid to the EXCELLENT carafe is wide-threaded so no way can you get it on NOT straight (unless you don't look)... Everything works great...and the coffee stays 'hot' at least 10 hours because that's how long it took me to drink it all. It makes great coffee (and uses less coffee with more taste) and we would buy it again in a heartbeat!
