Perfect coffee maker for work
Date: 2008-10-12 | Rating: 5
We needed a commercial coffee maker for work - this is perfect - two of us can make coffee at the same time and each use a different flavor of pod if we want to. It is so easy to use - just pour in water to make 1 cup or 2 cups, put the pod(s) in and push the button - couldn't be any easier to clean up - just dump the used pod! And it came with 50 pods of coffee - a couple of us like it a little stronger so we just use a little less water and it works great - I would recommend this coffee maker.

Very happy!
Date: 2009-01-24 | Rating: 5
I ordered this because I don't have a lot of counter space in my apartment and I've never been able to measure out the right amount of coffee to make a good-tasting cup. This maker is perfect! I ordered flavored pods separately, but I used the regular pods that came with the maker until they arrived. The pods that come with the machine have a great flavor! The coffee wasn't too strong and it wasn't too weak. For the first time in my life, I'm consistently making coffee that tastes good! My boyfriend really likes the coffee maker, too. We use bigger mugs and the amount of coffee that comes out is perfect to add milk and not overflow the mug. The maker arrived very quickly and the seller was great! I would definitely buy their pods when I run out of my 50 regular ones! I'm going to try to convince the office manager at my job to buy one for the office!

COFFEE OR TEA
Date: 2009-01-19 | Rating: 2
This looks like a good idea until you try it. Product is nicely made and makes it easy to (supposedly) brew one or two cups of coffee. However, the pods supplied brewed what looked a lot like weak tea, and tasted worse. I am in the middle of trying to return this product for credit. Certainly not worth $[...] bucks for heating up water.........

2 cup option doesn't work
Date: 2009-12-06 | Rating: 2
I bought this coffee maker because 1) the cost of pods are less than K-cups, 2) Cuisinart typically makes a good product and 3) it makes two cups of coffee at the same time. Unfortunately the coffee maker cannot produce two cups simultaneously as it advertises. One cup always came out with more coffee than the other making one cup weak (and overflowing) and one cup strong (with not enough coffee). It would have been better if the brew time was faster too. I would not recommend

Worthless
Date: 2009-03-07 | Rating: 1
From day one it wouldn't make coffee equally out of both sides. Overflowing the left and leaving the right half full. Then it failed completely. Totally worthless product.

Great So Far
Date: 2007-06-24 | Rating: 5
I purchased this coffee maker 4 months ago and it has worked wonderful so far. This is the 3rd coffee maker I have had in the last year. It told me last week to clean it and I did. Makes wonderful coffee set to my taste, and stays as hot as I want it to. Looks sleek and beautiful on the cabinet. Only drawbacks are you have to pour slow so you don't dribble (but only when I rush) and clock can't be seen in dark, only used to program it. I hope it lasts as long as it is warranteed for but would take 2 years.

Better designed than I thought...
Date: 2008-11-06 | Rating: 5
I read reviews obsessively and couldn't find the combination of features and looks and color I wanted (I got this in white), and settled on this one. I was worried about how difficult it would be to pour water in b/c of the placement of the well, but what you find out is that the Cuisinart pot is perfectly designed to sit on the lip of the well and pour the water on. Wish the lid on the pot were attached with a lever, instead of being a pop on and off affair... and if I break the pot - oi - doesn't seem like a cheap replacement. Small minus points for plastic knobs with cheap feeling little silver lines painted on which look like they'll get stripped off.. As mentioned the water gage is inside and isn't the easiest to read, you just have to measure carefully before you pour in - no biggie. And small minus for the faintness of the LED clock, and that to program the machine, you have to click TWO settings, not one, but still - I'm more impressed than I expected. And Big points for style. Oh - and no plastic taste here.

Best coffe maker ever. Great value.
Date: 2009-06-17 | Rating: 5
This is the best coffee maker I ever had. I was reluctant to spend $80 on a coffee maker. After living with this one for 6 months now I can honestly say that I would have paid a hundred for it and still been just as happy. I have seen many people who say that the water gauge being on the inside is a flaw in the design and they don't know how much water they put in. I do not understand this. I am 6'2" and can see the water gauge fine. That said, I never look at it anyway because I use the pot to measure the water and fill. Another "flaw" that I read in many reviews referred to the place where you pour the water being too small. Not the case. It is not tricky AT ALL to pour in the water. I use the coffe pot to fill it and I have never spilled a drop. I don't have to be particularly careful to get the desired result, either. This is a great coffe pot and an excellent value for the money. It makes a GREAT pot of coffee!

Why this is BETTER then a GRIND AND BREW Coffee Maker.
Date: 2009-09-06 | Rating: 5
This is a fantastic coffee maker that makes great tasting coffee but what if you are debating between this and an "all in one" unit that will grind your beans and brew your coffee at the same time (that I will refer to as a "Grind-N-Brew")? Below are my reasons for not giving into the "all in one gimmick": 1. Grind-N-Brew makers require just as much work as having a regular coffee maker and purchasing a separate grinder. When a grinder is built into the coffee maker, it tends to get wet from the steam each time you use it (unless the grinder is far enough away from the brewing portion of the machine. A few models do this but then some of them still have you manually transfer the grounds from one part of the machine to the next so what's the point?). Because the grinder get's wet from the steam, you have to clean it more often. Some models even require that you clean it after every brew! 2. With a separate grinder, you can grind the beans the night before (when you set the coffee maker) so there is less noise in the morning to wake you up. 3. This maker has a cone shaped filter instead of the bucket shaped ones that tend to come with the Grind-N-Brew models I've found (not sure why this is). 4. With a separate grinder, you can get better quality grinding. Seems like the built in grinders that I saw in the stores were a little on the dull side like it would make pretty course grounds (?). 5. Some Grind-N-Brew models pre-determine how much grounds you will use but if you buy a separate grinder, you can determine how strong you want your coffee. WHY CHOOSE THIS SPECIFIC BREW-ONLY COFFEE MAKER MODEL: Because it makes fantastic tasting coffee and, for the price, it feels solid, looks great, and is of good quality (compared to other makers I've seen for the same price). To me, the coffee tastes like I went to a coffee shop everytime I use it. It has a warming plate (and you can set it to high/medium/low). It also has a cleaning feature (which I thought was pointless until I found that it will actually alert you if it is STILL dirty after you've cleaned it (meaning you haven't cleaned it enough) which might be a neat idea. You can also set it to shut off after 1-4 hours and it has a 1-4 cup setting (which will heat the coffee up more then normal since you're making a smaller cup). The coffee is hot (burnt my mouth the first time) and tastes great. MINOR FLAWS: 1) Yes, with this model (and many other Cuisinart models), there is the issue of the 5 beeps that it makes when it completes the brewing cycle. It's not terrible unless you are sleeping in the room. The beeps sound like a generic wrist watch alarm and you're microwave will probably make more noise then these beeps so it shouldn't really deter you from purchasing this unit unless you are a delicate sleeper or have a studio apartment...etc.). 2) No outside water meter (so you will want to just keep track of how much water you put into the unit-which could be a downside to the thermal carafe option). It is possible to tell how many cups of water there are inside the unit by looking down the well positioned in the back (it has a measure inside there) but who wants to do that-just measure beforehand. 3) Yes, the hole in the back to pour the water in is more on the small side (about the size of an orange, I guess), so you will probably want to have full access to the back of the machine (maybe be able to slide it away from a wall so you can fully open lid to the machine and get the carafe to pour the water well. 4) The carafe lid snaps on and off so everytime you want to rinse it and put water in it, you have to snap off the lid (not a huge deal but not as nice as the attached lids). I'm getting pretty good at flicking off the lid with my thumb. ;) All in all, a great buy at a great price! I would highly recommend it for this price range.

Amazon.com Review
For coffee that's as fresh as the neighborhood coffee shop, but served at home, try Cuisinart's Automatic Grind and Brew coffeemaker. It makes it easy to enjoy fresh coffee with the utmost convenience--ground whole-bean coffee pours directly into the filter basket at a pre-set time for instant brewing. The maker does all the thinking, with a range of programmable features: set the machine to grind and brew at exactly the right time, predetermine the coffee's temperature, and program the machine to turn off a half-hour later.Other features take the guess work out of coffeemaking as well: the flavor setting ensures the optimal amount of water is used for a rich, aromatic taste and no acidity or bitterness, and the large easy-view water window makes sure the right amount of water is added. A self-clean feature lets you know when calcium buildup is interfering with the machine's operation; turn on the self-clean cycle to make quick work of grime. Daily cleaning of the machine is somewhat involved since all individual parts must be removed, so prepare for slightly longer clean up in exchange for time-saving upfront. Two additional caveats: The grinder is noisy, as most grinders are, and cannot be turned off midgrind. And the coffee bar is taller than average coffee machines, so make sure you have a spot for it with plenty of below cupboard space. --Emily Wolf

Not Loud, Not Hard to Clean..Spending Less at Starbucks!!
Date: 2001-12-09 | Rating: 5
While there are very few who complain about the quality of coffee produced by this machine, there are some who complain about the noise or cleaning factors. I would disagree that this is a noisy and hard to clean machine. The grinder is NO LOUDER than any other grinder in the world. In fact, it's slightly less noisy b/c it is contained within the machine. As far as cleaning goes, there are only 3 pieces that need to be cleaned and dried. At the end of the day, I take out the pieces and spray them clean with warm/hot water from the kitchen sprayer. Then, I sit them upside down on a paper towel to dry overnight (Unless I'm going to set the auto-brew function for morning, in which case I dry and replace the parts immediately). Other reviewers, who use a similar process, seem to rate this item highly. I'm not sure what the rest of the reviewers are expecting! If you want to grind and brew your own coffee, you must clean the grinder and filter system whether they are a part of the same machine or two separate ones! In the end, this product does a wonderful job of simplifying the process!!Oh, by the way, I've cut my Starbucks expenditure by 75%!!

Awesome!

I just received my Grind and Brew coffee maker, and I now look forward to 6 AM every day. I put the beans and water in at night and when I'm out of the shower, freshly brewed coffee is waiting! Because it controls the grind and the amount of water poured over the grounds the coffee is smooth and flavorful, no bitterness at all. I no longer stop at the coffee shop on my way to school and I have been more patient with my students! I highly recommend it!

Great coffee maker
Date: 2002-04-05 | Rating: 5
I am not sure how you can have a problem with this coffee maker. Yes it makes noise when grinding but what grinder doesn't. It takes about 3 min to clean and all the parts fit nicely together.

great reliable coffee maker
Date: 2006-03-23 | Rating: 5
Owned this coffee maker for over 5 years now, been happy since day one. Automatic grinder along with good beans really makes a difference in the quality of the coffee. Have not experienced any of the hinge breakages other users mentioned. And the labels are still on for mine, maybe I don't clean as rigorously as others. The only cleaning I do on a day to day bases is basically cleaning out the grinder and filter. This takes running water over the 4 parts (grinder, grinder cap, filter and cover), which easily lifts out, in the sink. Yes, the day to day cleaning is more involved than a coffee maker that uses coffee grounds, but it's not any harder (in fact easier) than using a separate grinder for the beans. One additional note, I use paper coffee filters along with the wire mesh filter provided for stronger flavor from the coffee beans.

great coffee every morning
Date: 2000-05-13 | Rating: 5
We used to grind coffee and then clean up the mess and then make coffee in our drip coffee maker. Now it is one step. The night before we put in the coffee beans and the next morning we hear it grinding and then start to smell fresh coffee.

Excellent quality, great coffee!
Date: 2008-11-28 | Rating: 5
We searched and searched for a thermal carafe coffeemaker. This one was a decent price, with a lot of features, include brew/pause, automatic shutoff, a double-walled stainless thermal carafe, and a built-in water filter. The first few pots didn't taste great, even though I ran hot water through it a couple of times before brewing that first pot. The Cuisinart makes GREAT coffee, good and hot. The carafe keeps it hot for a long time. It's a great buy for the money. I made a pot at 7:00 this morning and the coffee is still warm. We're very pleased. It also has a three year warranty. You can't beat it for the price.

Perfect For My Needs
Date: 2008-12-30 | Rating: 5
The main reasons I was interested in this coffee maker were for the thermal properties of the carafe and the quality of coffee the machine makes. I wasn't interested in whether or not I could see the water in the reservoir or see how much coffee was left in the pot. I wanted a machine that would allow me to stop making multiple pots of coffee throughout the morning. Most of the time, I would make myself coffee early in the morning, then, make my wife a pot around 10 or 11. Our old coffee maker would burn coffee after about 45 minutes. With the Cuisinart, all I have to do is put hot water in the carafe prior to brewing, pour it out, and brew my coffee as usual. After the coffee is made, I put the stylish carafe on our coffee table or living room table, and we have coffee for the whole morning. I don't have to worry about the pot burning any of our table/counter surfaces because it's double insulated. That's the beauty of this carafe--its basically a large, stylish thermos. All of the other minor issues I can deal with. Guess what? You can pour water into the chamber with something other than the coffee pot. You know how many cups of coffee you can pour before the pot is empty? The exact number you poured from your old coffee pot. If you had a 12-cup maker prior to this one, subtract 1 large coffee mug from that number. I'm not real sure what people are expecting from this machine. It makes above-average coffee and keeps it hot without burning or scalding.

Read The Reviews
Date: 2009-03-29 | Rating: 5
I guess what reading reviews proves is that,"you can please some of the people most of the time, and most of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" and unfortunately it is the terminally discontent that write most of the reviews. I like strong coffee, no problem; I like hot coffee, no problem; I like a carafe that keeps the coffee hot, until it starts to settle down at which point it loses its flavor any way, no problem. I see lots of nit picking by those who enjoy picking nits. Grow up people, this is not a perfect world and this is not a perfect coffee maker but it is more than good enough to rate five stars. \TGP

Great coffee maker
Date: 2009-01-17 | Rating: 5
I did a lot of research before buying this coffee maker from Amazon. Some close contenders were the grind and brew and the higher dollar capresso's. I was really liked the idea of a grind and brew, yet across the board , from one maker to another, people reported problems with the process, whether it be moisture build up in the grinding area, too much coffee being left in the grinding process, problems maintaining brew strength, problems 'switching' coffee flavors, and time consuming cleaning processes. I thought I would invest and buy a higher dollar capresso without the grinder, but was really suprised and disappointed that multiple reviews stated they had problems with a ball float in the pot lid resulting in waking up to find coffee - all over the counter. In my humble opinion, waking up up to the best coffee in the world the rest of the year is not worth cleaning up that mess once in a while. The thermal carafe on the cuisinart is great. I understood before buying it that getting the last drop of coffee out of a thermal carafe lid or in fact using it to fill the water reserv. were problematic across most makers. I keep a 44oz plastic rest cup by my coffee supplies to fill the water and it is handy as I get the water from the filtered fridge and filling into the cup is actually more efficient than filling even into my old glass coffee carafe as they are all kind of bulky. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for about three hours. I am very happy with this product and gave it 5 stars.

Great tasting coffee from a great looking machine
Date: 2009-10-27 | Rating: 5
After reading too many reviews on KitchenAid, Mr. Coffee, & Cuisinart coffee makers, I decided to take a chance on this model. The coffee from this machine is fantastic! I used to always make coffee out of my Bodum 2 cup coffee press because I was convinced that the only way to get a great tasting cup of coffee was to use a coffee press. Boy, was I wrong! It was my boyfriend's idea to get a coffee maker & I'm glad I listened. The coffee doesn't have any bitterness or strange tastes that I would normally get from my old 4 cup Mr. Coffee. I'm sure this can also be attributed to the water filter & the gold-tone coffee filter included with the machine (which is also awesome because you don't have to buy it separately). I've tried the programming feature & it works perfectly. It's probably not something you can just "figure out" but it wasn't difficult. I just had to take a few minutes to read the instructions. I was able to wake up to the wonderful smell of freshly brewed coffee & found that it's a great incentive to get out of bed on time (along with not being late for work). A few downsides(as many have already mentioned): the water level indicator. Since you have to look at it from above the reservoir I can see how it may be difficult for shorter people (I'm pretty short at 5'3" but I don't have a problem with it). If you are not in a well lit area of the kitchen this may also cause a problem for you because it's hard to tell where the water level is. Solution: use a liquid measuring cup when filling the reservoir & take note of how much water is required to make however much coffee you want to make. Pouring the water using a regular cup will prove to be problematic because of the small opening of the water reservoir. Solution: Use a liquid measuring cup. The other downside to it is that it is a little difficult to pour out of the thermal carafe, especially if you are only making a few cups of coffee. The last couple cups of coffee doesn't pour very easily because of the plastic lip around the top of the carafe. Solution: take the lid off the carafe & pour. As you can see there are some design issues that could be improved but it doesn't make the coffee maker bad (in my opinion). Bad tasting coffee will make a coffee maker bad & this one definitely does not produce bad tasting coffee. That's why it gets 5 stars from me.

Great little brewer
Date: 2008-08-22 | Rating: 5
This is a great little brewer for anyone who wants to brew just one quick cup or when you don't need to make a full pot. I use it when I leave early AM for the airport hours before the family wakes up. Green Tree supplies this unit with 50 pods of terrific coffee too. It's fast, quiet, and I think I'll easily save the cost of this brewer in coffee we don't pour out down the drain. Highly recommended.

Fast and perfect. Excellent product, especially for the price. I've searched for 6 months for a single-cup coffee maker and this was absolutely the right choice. Quick, easy, and wonderful. This company also sends you 50 pods of coffee. What a bargain! Will definetly tell all my friends.

Three weeks ago I stayed in a motel which had this same coffeemaker. I have tried single serving coffeemakers before, but I was never satisfied or impressed. This coffeemaker is simply outstanding. Makes one cup of delicious, brewed coffee. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Highly recommend. Would give this product 10 stars if I could!

I LOVE this coffee brewer

I recently used one similar to this in a Wyngate Inn and loved it. This little gem is cheap, small( great for tiny kitchens) and brews one delicious cup of coffee in under 3 mins. I also just get Senseo pods from Target at $4.84 a peice for 18. I will save so much money at Starbux now! Best purchase I have made all year.

Ignore Detractors, this machine ROCKS!

I use it to make 2 cups or full pots. I have used many different machines over 15 years of drinking coffee (and therefore making coffee) daily and have absolutely no complaints about this machine. I would like to address the complaints here for people shopping for a coffeemaker. RE: The reported leakage problem. This is due to OVERFILLING. The water reservoir is larger than the carafe for a reason people: Steam builds up as water is heated, if the reservoir were the exact size of the carafe... YOU finish this sentence. If you can- a) figure out in your head what happens to heated plastic without room built in to displace heat and b) either fill the machine with the actual carafe being used or something you measured out beforehand that is equal to the volume of said carafe- than you're smart enough to own this excellent machine. RE: The BEEP. Yes it beeps (3 times) and yes it's not a whisper, but it's not the trumpet people are making it out to be. These people must have it set up in their bedrooms two feet from their head. If the machine is in your kitchen and you are nearby it's not loud enough to wake you, it's just loud enough to hear if you're in the other room and can't WAIT to get that first cup of java. It's morning and it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." It's evening and I'm chatting with friends and forget and then it tells me "hey, your coffee is ready." People who complain about the beep would complain about getting wet in the rain or cold in the winter. RE: The screw cap. Yes it takes 3 revolutions to get this SCREW cap SCREWED on. And like any nut and bolt system you have to start screwing evenly in order to form a tight bond. This tight bond is what keeps your coffee hot. The carafe pours using a built-in ball-bearing that uses that wonderful thing we like to call gravity to move the ball ever so slightly away from the opening so that your HOT coffee can pour into your waiting favorite coffee cup. The stream is thin yes, again for a reason: large openings equal larger exposure to air, air that is most probably colder than you like your coffee. I've tried many others and this is my favorite. This is the coffeemaker I would give as a gift to someone who really loves their coffee. Now I will retire to my DTC-975BK and celebrate its excellence with an afternoon cup of French Roast.

Coolest coffee maker on the planet

For about a year, I had been stopping by the coffee pot section of the stores staring at the few pathetic choices, and thankfully resisted the urge to buy the mostly stainless steel Cuisinart number that my daughter has.Just last week my girlfriend had been telling me how much she loved her thermal one, and it really got me thinking how awesome it would be if the coffee stayed hot, and didn't turn funky like it always does on a burner. A day later, I was staring at this one in the store and fell in love with it.First of all, it was the 12 cup factor - I had only seen 10 cup thermals before and I couldn't see the point - when I entertain, I need to have more than 10 lousy cups. It also looks super in my white/bisque kitchen, and the brushed stainless steel pot is very nice looking and heavy duty. I was forever standing in front of the micro reheating a cup of coffee or tea. Today was a very extreme example: I made a pot of coffee at 9:30 am before heading to church - and at 4:30 IN THE AFTERNOON, poured a cup and it was TOO HOT TO DRINK! Mind-blowing! And it tasted exactly like the first cup did in the morning. The whole fam likes to also likes to drink a lot of tea, especially in the evening, and it dawned on me that I could run the water through it without coffee, and wala.... hot water for tea anytime someone wants a cup... no more standing in front of the micro for 2 minutes. I can't tell you how awesome this coffee maker is... and having never had one I can set up the night before is truly wonderful. I love the fact that I don't have to open the top to pour. I will never own a coffeemaker with a hot plate again.

Love it.!! Some issues are real but easily overcome

I LOVE this coffee maker. It is true that the coffee is hot and fresh for hours. It's super easy to clean. Definitely one of the best purchases I made. I would highly recommend this machine for most people. Some of the issues mentioned do have some truth...but are unavoidable given the merits of the machine... For example, the lid does need to be put on correctly and is a little tight (but this required if the coffee is to stay hot for hours). Every once in a while I misalign it, but I think it's obvious when this starts to happen. I could see that someone with arthritis would have a problem. This machine may not be for the very old, or those with people in the house who wouldn't make the effot to do it right (like some teenagers?). Same thing with putting the brew basket in. It does have to sit fully down and can easily be put in crooked. But after you've used it a few times it's obvious when it's in properly or not. When properly placed you can remove the pot during brew without spilling a drop. Again, this machine may not be best for older people who really can't see very well (my grandmother would have a real hard time) and for those who don't bother to check these little things. I did have a problem once with the autostopper not working well and dripping when I remove the pot during brew, now I always fill the basket with water and push the button to let water come through when I wash it. Works like a champ again. Bottom line, for most people this coffee pot is fabulous. I may not be best for older people because it does have a few quirks.

A brilliant design

As a coffee lover since 3rd grade, and an engineer with a low tolerance for flaws, I'd call this coffeemaker near-perfect. I gave it as a gift this Christmas, and our whole extended family was impressed with the unit. The thermos carafe has an ingenious screw-top lid (easily removed for cleaning), with a beautifully clever mechanism that allows coffee to trickle in during brewing, and pour out without opening the top, but still manage to be airtight the rest of the time. I'd like to shake the hand of the guy that designed that simple-but-elegant mechanism. The coffeemaker brews a full 12-cup carafe in just 10 minutes, a real benefit given the effect that brewing time has on the coffee's flavor. And the carafe is insulated enough that the coffee remained drinkable past the 2 hour mark. The only weakness that I saw is that, since the unit shuts off completely once the coffee is brewed, you can't tell at a glance that there is coffee waiting for you (if it started automatically by the timer). But that's pretty minor, and I'm already recommending this machine to friends. Well done, Cuisinart.

Close to perfect for us...

I read all the reviews of this coffee maker before we bought one. We must have a new and improved model. There is a water-line tube on the outside, left side of the machine...very easy to read and is accurate. There is NO hotplate (don't know where that review came from), the filter holder can only go in one way for no mistakes, the screw-on lid to the EXCELLENT carafe is wide-threaded so no way can you get it on NOT straight (unless you don't look)... Everything works great...and the coffee stays 'hot' at least 10 hours because that's how long it took me to drink it all. It makes great coffee (and uses less coffee with more taste) and we would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Didn't need, but had to have! Love it!

I have a perfectly good Cuisinart DCC-1200, but after spotting the 2000 at a local store I couldn't stop fiddling with the floor model. Well, my wife was lurking as I was fiddling and with my birthday coming up - and my affinity for coffee - she thought she'd found the perfect gift. Boy was she was right! Now let's be honest, carafe-less designs have been around forever - Farberware's stainless steel coffee pots are staples in offices and at parties - they just haven't been this much fun. I'm not going to repeat everything that's already been written, but suffice to say the 2000 is a unique coffee maker. Does it make coffee better than my 1200 did? No, not really. But it does keep it hot longer, without the bitter, burnt taste that would often accompany the coffee from my 1200 when left on the warming plate for over 30 minutes. I normally have two cups every morning (not the puny 5-ounce "cups" that every coffee maker seems to think is the norm for whatever reason), but I've found myself having about three (maybe not a good thing?) since getting the 2000 because that third cup, about 1-1/2 hours later still tastes great. That wasn't happening with the 1200. Sometimes I'd try the third cup, but the burnt carafe taste made it unfortunate. One of the complaints I'm reading here is that you need a separate container to fill the 2000. I can't be the only owner that owns a Pyrex 2-cup (or more) measuring cup can I? I just fill it up once, twice - gasp! - three times and pour it in while watching the water level on the side. Honestly, it's not that hard. Cleaning is no different from any model with a carafe. But instead of washing the outer carafe you remove the inner "carafe" to rinse it out or give it a thorough cleaning. That's the only difference. The coffee gauge is kind of silly and inaccurate and I rarely ever look at it, but it adds to the allure of the 2000. I'll be keeping my 1200 at the ready for my sister to use when she comes over to make her dreadful flavored coffees so they don't contaminate my new toy. But until the next great design advance comes along to which I can't say "no," I'll be enjoying the 2000 to the fullest. It's neat, it's fun and it makes great coffee.

Great machine.....please read

This is really a great coffee maker. The negative reviews all seem to be fixated on the fact that you have to pour water into the reservoir, and the unit doesn't come with a container for this purpose!! Is Cuisinart the Devil? Should I call my lawyer and file a class action suit? What is wrong with people today? Is is really that difficult to procure a plastic pitcher of some sort, fill it with water and then transfer that water into the coffee maker? I think not, and I do it one or two time a day myself without covering my kitchen counters with water. If you are not able to pour water from a pitcher into the reservoir of a coffee machine, I really do not think that you should be trusted with a hot cup of coffee either. The coffee tastes great, never burnt. It is easy to program and clean and does not take up a whole lot of room. It also comes with one of those re-usable, permanent gold filters which many companies sell separately for about $20. My girlfriend can operate this thing easily, and she has a hard time figuring out the remote control for the TV. If she can program this unit, so can you. As to the other negative comments I have read which describe a powerless, malfunctioning unit, I have had no problems whatsoever with mine. Hope this review was useful, thanks for reading it.

WE LOVE THIS FREAKING MACHINE!!!!!!!!!!!

It's quick, quiet, clean, and looks good too. Filling it up is EZ, especially if you have a sprayer hose thingy on your sink. Otherwise YES you will need another container (preferrably one with a spout) unless you're very adept & not clumsy. If you pour around the top sloppily it WILL get the counter wet, as others have noticed. The tank that holds the finished coffee does come out & you could use this as well but I think it would be kinda awkward, haven't tried it. It does come with one water filter that supposedly is good for 2 months. Or just put your own filtered water in there & skip the filters all together. The timer & clock is easily setup. It brews quietly with little gurgling and finishes with a few low non-obnoxious beeps. It's weird how quickly it sets up, I find myself standing there a few seconds afterwards trying to figure out what I forgot to do because it's that zippy of a process. There are no swinging baskets to fiddle with - the top lifts straight up to give you access to the water area, the inner "pot" that holds the brewed coffee, and the two baskets for grounds. The larger square one is for using paper filters - this one must stay in the machine. The smaller gold filter fits in this one if you go paperless. Coffee stays HOT but not stupidly dangerously hot like gas station coffee. The last cup is as good as the first - I've grabbed some 3 hours after brewing & tho cooling at that point (heater is on for 2 hours) the coffee tasted fine - not bitter or burned or evaporated down at all. As often as I'm up getting the last murky cup (roomie makes the pot at 5:30am) this makes me VERY happy. We use generic & Kroger brand coffees too, nothing gourmet except very rarely. I can't wait to put some REAL coffee in this to see how it does. Well actually I did today I forgot about that! Decaff southern pecan. It had a distinctive chocolate flavor that I've never experienced before, bonus! I'd been reviewing & compairing coffee pots for a few months now looking for a number of features: extra cups (12), carafe-less or no-spill thermos, timer/clock. As a bonus this coffee maker is sexy. I like the stainless shiny plate that you put your cup on (and it never gets a drop on it) and the brushed stainless sides that wipe up instantly with a damp washrag - especially if it's hot. The finger marks just evaporate as you wipe. And it doesn't steam up the underside of the cabinets or walls either. Serving is a breeze, just put your cup under & press the lever. Viola! For very tall cups the grill lifts out easily giving you an extra inch. For jumbo cups (like tall travel mugs) yeah you gonna have to pour in another cup & then dump into YOUR cup. My only "EH!?" is the gold filter. The one that comes with it just feels a little flimsy to me, I have another one from an old pot I use instead. It's probably fine but I'm just used to the weight of the one I've got. EDIT 8/30/06 STILL loving this coffee pot!!!!! We make an average of 3 pots a day, sometimes 4. Still going strong, no problems at all. I run 2 cups of vinegar thru the system (top the rest off with water) to clean and then another pot of clear water to rinse. This keeps everything sparkling. It's my favorite piece of kitchen equipment - to say the least. I FINALLY have a tidy area around the coffee pot with no drips or sloshed coffee. HURRAH!!!!!

Very Smart Design

I almost passed on this coffee maker after reading the reviews about needing an additional container for adding the water to the coffee maker. Then I decided to read all of the reviews that were posted and luckily I read the post by "Dee "buffysomers2". She mentioned that the inside container that holds the brewed coffee has a built in pour feature. She is right and it works really great, there is a small hinged flap that will allow no drip pouring. Lucky for myself and Cuisinart she was very observant. She is correct on this feature not being mentioned in the instructions. I am really glad that we decided to go with this coffee maker it is easily the best design that I have tried so far. Makes a great tasting cup of coffee and there is not any dripping from the spout after dispensing a cup. We have now officially retired our Senseo. Thanks Dee "buffysomers2" and Cuisinart, Mike Roda

Appealing both for gadget freaks and the spouses who love them!

This really is a great coffeemaker. It not only makes excellent coffee but also cleverly avoids the problem of coffee left over in the carafe cooking into mud on the heating plate over the course of several hours. Several guests have admired the look of the machine, the taste of the coffee produced, or both. Complaints about the need to use a measuring cup or pitcher to pour water into this coffeemaker seem somewhat off base to me-- maybe these people are uncoordinated (or I'm much more so than I thought). It seems to me no big deal to fill the coffeemaker when I set it up each evening for the following morning. I'm not ending up with significant spills. The machine is actually quite well designed, both asthetically (the analog "coffee gauge" with the brushed steel finish, along with the knobs, lever and colored lights seem somehow both 'retro' and modern at the same time) but more importantly, functionally (the coffee reservoir comes out for emptying, with no drips; the filter basket comes out easily; and the water fill gauge on the side is quite accurate). I think my favorite thing about this machine is that it appeals both to me (for my gadget loving nature) but also to my wife (because it looks tidy on the counter, with no carafe.) With a conventional coffeemaker it seems like if the carafe is half full or anything less than sparkling it looks like dirty clutter. The only thing I don't understand is the gold filter. What is the appeal of these things? If one can afford a Cuisinart coffemaker than one can afford paper filters. My feeling is that a filter such as this only serves to make discarding grounds a little easier; it can't replace a paper filter. Not only does it allow the beans' oil (if you use one, look for the oil slick on your coffee! ewwww!) which would normally be held by the paper to get into the coffee, it also lets quite a bit of sediment through. I use the gold filter, with a paper one sandwiched beneath, between it and the filter basket. I am always glad I do when I see the amount of sediment it catches. Using the gold basket in tandem, though, at least eliminates the task of handling a wet filter which is full of grounds. Overall a great product, and well worth the price. The three year warranty is pretty impressive too. ***UPDATE 2/23/07***Still works great...None of the mechanical problems others have mentioned. Still no issue with spilling water-- at least, not often!

Product Description
With its sleek Italian styling, brushed stainless finish and "loaded" feature package, you'd expect nothing less than a fabulous cup of coffee. And you won't be disappointed! From filtering the water, to grinding the beans, to keeping your brew hot, not to mention having it ready and waiting for you first thing in the morning, this handsome machine does it all, and then some.

Amazon.com Review
When the aroma of freshly brewed coffee--from freshly ground beans--wafts into your bedroom in the morning, you won't need your alarm clock. Preset this coffeemaker for your desired wake-up time, add coffee beans to the grinder, and in the morning the beans are ground to a medium grind and hot coffee awaits in the 10-cup stainless steel, double-wall insulated thermal carafe. You can also program the machine to start brewing at the end of a dinner party to avoid having to get up from the table, or to have hot coffee waiting after a brisk winter walk. When making fewer than five cups of coffee, use the 1-to-4-cups setting to improve extraction and heat; coffeemakers without this setting often lack the time to heat up properly, and coffee comes out cooler. A disposable charcoal filter removes chlorine and odors from tap water, improving coffee flavor, and should be changed every few months. Other features include a gold-tone commercial-style filter (or use No. 4 basket-style paper filters); capacity to use preground coffee instead of beans; 30-second Brew Pause, which allows a cup be poured before brewing is complete; and an audible tone to indicate the pot is ready. The grinder removes for easy cleaning, and all removable parts can be washed safely in the upper rack of a dishwasher. The Cuisinart Grind and Brew measures 15 by 8 by 7-1/2 inches, and comes with a three-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I purchased the thermal carafe version 10 cup
Date: 2003-09-14 | Rating: 5
- previous was the typical old plastic type with glass carafeGood Points: - much considerable improvement in coffee taste now- the thermal carafe with autoseal until poured keeps coffee hot and no stale or burnt taste, it is double lined with stainless steel- auto shutoff of heating element immediately after brewing prevents burning of coffee and electricity bills- the 1-4 cup extra heat excellent idea- the built-in grinding process- choice of using paper filter or gold filter basket- beeping tells you when coffee is ready- does not have that ugly water level marker, it has a built-in marker where you pour water, a 3-D step ladder sort of speak- does not expell any heat or humidity from unit, well sealed- nice design and looksBad Points:- cannot tell amount coffee left in carafe- pours out slowly from carafe- carafe autoseal feature requires you to pour at a steeper angle to get faster flow output which still isn't fast enough for me- grinder howls for about 30 seconds when running, it does not adjust grind-time for amount of coffee beans inside, it defaults to a 10 cup grind, solving this would require some clever engineering idea- I find I have to clean more than my old machine, I clean the grinder and lid, basket and basket lid, ... the grinder does create a lot fine coffee dust which does get packed into every nook and cranny

Love it.

I was a skeptic after reading all the negative reviews, and even encountered a disgruntled elderly woman at the store who told me how much she despised this machine, but something in my gut said I should buy it and I did. I've had this coffeemaker for three months now and it's become one of my most loved possessions, right up there with my handsfree wireless and my favorite pens. It is important to note that it takes a few brews to get to know your new coffeemaker. I too had the leak experience upon first brew, but I realized that I was obviously overfilling the water tank, despite what the level said. It's also taken some trial and error to get the right ratio of coffee to water, but one must understand that this is a factor of personal taste and shouldn't be dictated by some recipe. Yes, it takes a little extra effort to clean. But I've noticed that most nice things do take that extra effort to manage and maintain, and I don't mind getting my hands a smidge dirty in exchange for the result! It does pour slower than the regular carafe. But that's a bit picky, don't you think? Seven seconds to fill your cup. What do you want, three seconds? What so great about that other four seconds? Is it life or death? If it is, you probably shouldn't be kicking back with a cup of coffee at the moment anyway. Plus, this is no regular carafe! I park this thing right next to me at the computer and don't have to travel back and forth to the kitchen to get more coffee - that's well worth the four seconds I'd save in the kitchen with my old coffeemaker. It grinds loud? Of course it grinds loud. It's grinding. Just the nature of the word "grind" leads one to attach a certain amount of noise to the action in my mind. The process is swifter than my previous grind n' brew and actually a bit quieter - not that I mind the grind sound. I've come to appreciate it in a way. I'm not one to usually write a review, but it seemed that others picked at this product and I felt compelled to share my thoughts on what I consider to be a fantastic addition to the kitchen. By one if you're on the fence. I'll be enjoying my french roast while you think about it.

Beautiful, Functional and Great Coffee Too

I had a disappointing experience with the Melitta Mill & Brew, but hated to give up the convenience of the automatic grind feature. The original Cuisinart Grind & Brew is so big and bulky looking that I was reluctant (but resigned) to purchase it. Then I saw an ad for the new design and ran out and grabbed one up. I'm no engineer, but whoever designed this coffeemaker thought of everything. It looks like a robot (we call it our coffee-bot) and everything about it is easy to use and well thought-out. Although still quite tall, it is less bulky than the original and the styling on the stainless steel model is beautiful. The thermal pot keeps the coffee hot without continual heating, so you never get that nasty over-cooked taste. Dinner guests were very impressed with the taste of the coffee. Once people hear about this coffeemaker, they won't be able to keep it on the shelves!

Great Coffee Maker!!! Very happy!
Date: 2003-01-01 | Rating: 5
This coffee maker is awesome! Got the thermal version for Christmas and couldn't be more pleased. Read other reviews about poor coffee and wonder if someone got a defective unit, because mine is very good. First pot was a little funny tasting, but I've learned to expect that on a brand new coffee maker. After about 5 pots brewed, the coffee tastes great. Also, making minor adjustments in amount of beans and switching to paper filters probably helped. I think the reusable metal filters allow the water to pass too quickly, and you get better results with paper. Anyway, it works great, it is a snap to clean. Parts are dishwasher safe. The thermal pot stays piping hot for hours with no burner beneath it. And an added bonus, you can take the pot around the house, set it anywhere as it is cool to the touch within minutes of brewing, while keeping the coffee hot. Can also use with pre-ground coffee. I have no negatives to report.

This coffee maker has it all!!
Date: 2002-11-14 | Rating: 5
I have tried several of the brew & grind coffee makers, this by far beats them all..Especially the sleek design and the beautiful stainless steel...the coffee beans grind perfectly, and the taste is that of a commercial coffee shop. The machine beeps when the coffee is done, however, if you can"t wait, the coffee pot is removeable with a very well designed pour spout, absolutely no dripping or mess..and stays hot all day long ! This machine comes apart very easily for cleaning..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

This state of the art coffeemaker lets you fine tune the process from filtering the water you brew with to keeping the brewed coffee at the precise temperature you desire. Strikingly retro in brushed stainless-steel with black-plastic accents, this 12-cup coffeemaker includes Cuisinart's best brewing technology and premium features for ease and flexibility. The digital clock/timer is programmable for automatically brewing "wake-up" coffee at a selected time and for turning off the warming plate up to four hours in advance. Removing the glass carafe from the warming plate automatically pauses the brewing process for a quick pour, and the warming plate's temperature can be adjusted. For maximum flavor, the machine can be set to brew one to four 5-ounce cups or five to twelve cups, and it includes a charcoal water filter. For convenience, a permanent Gold Tone filter eliminates messy paper filters and an indicator-light shows when decalcification is needed. After purchasing 3 other coffee makers, the 4th one is the charm! This coffee maker makes great tasting coffee. I never knew there was a difference -- it's worth spending a few more dollars on. It also has all of the features I was looking for such as: adjustable warming plate, 1-4 cup selection, water filter, programmable. It is a rather tall machine, but certainly not a problem as it fits fine underneathe most cabinets. Als, the carafe is well-made and has a spout that pours nicely without spilling. No complaints about this one!

Cuisinart DCC-1200 easily trumps Krups 180-46 Aroma Control

Two weeks ago, I needed a new coffee maker. The Krups Aroma Control maker is in all the stores and catalogs, so I bought one in the local mall BEFORE reading the Amazon reviews. BIG MISTAKE. Lesson learned - read the reviews - many negative comments. I used it for 3 days, and readily understood the description (...) of "eye candy" (looks nice, but seems like cheap plastic) and weak coffee (what they describe as a feature - allowing the coffee to steep - is really a euphemism for a poorly designed system that is guaranteed to give you a weak cup of coffee). One redeeming feature - the carafe is very nice.Within 2 days of having the Krups, i was on Amazon looking for a replacement coffee maker (a good cup of coffee is critical in the morning!). I went out on the risk curve and ordered the new Cuisinart - no reviews yet. The Cuisinart has a more classic brewing system (water goes through grinds via gravity), yields a delicious cup of HOT coffee, has a variable temperature hot place, and looks and feels solid. We happen to have stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, freezer, stove), and it matches beautifully. Best news - excellent coffee!. I would highly recommend the Cuisinart.

Plusses and Minuses

I've had the Cuisinart DCC-1200 for about a week now. I was hesitant to spend so much on a coffee maker but I'm happy to report it's well worth it. Sure, you can get other brands of coffee makers for under $25 if economy is the most important feature, but I've had those machines and I decided that, this time, a good cup of coffee was most important for me. This unit makes the best coffee I've had in a home or office machine and better than most coffee I've had in restaurants. This coffee tastes smooooooth! I suspect the charcoal water filter is the reason for that. I also like the "shower head" design of the water spout. The water actually runs up a track onto the underside of the lid and is sprinkled over the ground coffee like a rain shower. It's an attractive unit but it also looks like a serious coffee maker. This unit is no toy. It looks and feels solid. The carafe has a good solid feel and balance. The plastic parts (like the plastic carafe lid and handle) feel like good heavyweight plastic and are well molded. It's not the lightweight crappy plastic that cracks and discolors easily in the cheap coffee makers. I like the 5 beeps when the coffee is ready. Now I can leave the kitchen and go clean or whatever and I don't have to keep running back to see if I can get a cup yet. I can hear the beeps. But if I really can't wait and want a cup in mid-brew, I can just remove the pot and pour a cup - you've got a full 30 seconds to reinsert the pot, before you risk an overflowing filter. I like the permanent gold-tone filter too. I always thought paper filters were a pain. They'd fold over sometimes and there'd be grounds in my coffee. But you can use paper filters in this machine if you want to. I just prefer the convenience of the gold-tone filter (top rack machine washable too). It has an indicator light for cleaning -- it says it's "self-cleaning" but really it's just a light telling you when you need to pour in a pot of water/vinegar and run it through to decalcify the unit. (I never thought to do that with my other units. Probably another reason my coffee wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.) The low-medium-high setting on the hot plate is pretty nice too. And the auto-shutoff feature is great. I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn the machine off. The instruction booklet is very good and very thorough. Comes with a parts reordering form too. What don't I like about this machine? It requires maintenance in that you have to change the charcoal filters. But actually I don't mind since I think they are the reason the coffee tastes so smooth, and they are very easy to change and not expensive [...] Also, the area in the top of the machine where you pour in the water is narrow but again this is just a minor inconvenience. Just have to pour a little carefully. So really it's almost all positives with a couple of very minor negatives. I highly recommend this coffee maker.

Read This One! The problems are fixed on the current models.

Folks, this is one excellent coffee maker. I read the comments here and decided to get it even though some had complained of spillage when lifting the lid and also the coffee not being hot enough. Well I can tell you that when I lift the lid on mine, the water rolls to the back and then drips back into the machine on a nifty little lip attached to the back of the machine. It appears that Cuisinart has engineered a solution for the complaints of spilled water that some reviewers mention. Also, the coffee coming out of the carafe of my machine has steam drifting off of it, so it is plenty hot, another complaint that seems to have been remedied. There were also a couple of complaints about finger prints on the stainless and the small LED clock being hard to read, but let's be for real, all brushed stainless appliances will fingerprint and this is a very stylish coffee maker, not a kitchen clock(that's what your microwave is for! (wink)). Actually I think the Cuisinart guys intended the clock for autoprogramming functions and made it LED to match the stainless on the machine. And if you don't like the water filter, you don't have to use it. It is a nicety and can be readily found if you search the net for "dcc1200 water filter".Enough defending complaints though. This machine makes superb coffee. It has the best carafe I have ever used(it will not spill a drop and it has a built-in plastic rim to keep you from busting it on the sink). It comes with a gold metal filter. Buy it and you will like it. And if for some strange reason you don't, then take it back. All jabs aside, this is an outstanding machine in form as well as function, and the people at Cuisinart obviously care what their customers think of their products. That means alot to me. How about you???

Best Coffeemaker that I have ever owned..Hands Down

The Cuisinart DCC 1200 Brew Central Coffeemaker is the best coffeemaker that I have ever owned. I have been using it for the last several months and have not regreted making this purchase. I looked at other manufacturers of coffeemakers, Braun, Krups, and the like, but I felt that they didn't offer what this coffeemaker has to offer. I love the retro style with the stainless steel look. It's a breeze to program and if you don't need 12 cups a coffee, you press one button on the front and you can make a great small pot of coffee. It by far makes the best pot of coffee that I have ever tasted, and since I roast my own coffee at home I should know. There are a couple of minor issues, but they are so minor it isn't a large drawback to the machine. It can be a chore to pour in the water and with it large size, with top lid open, you have to pull it out from under the upper kitchen cabinets to fill. It's a minor inconvenience, but when you use it daily you slowly find little tricks that make those minor issues seem to disappear. Others have complained about not seeing the clock very well, but why depend on your coffeemaker to tell time when it is really there to be programmed to wake up to a hot pot of delicious coffee. The condensation issue hasn't been a problem for me, so I can't comment on that issue that some have had with this coffeemaker. I will say that if you are looking for a great coffemaker, then this is the one for you. It's a bit more money than most coffeemakers, but I think that for the money this coffeemaker is the best bang for the buck and you will never regret owning one.
